About Sylvia

Immediately following her graduation, Sylvia won awards and honors in the "Young Artist Auditions" of the Musicians' Club of New York, and the National Competition of the American Harp Society.
Throughout her career, Sylvia has played with the Atlanta Symphony, Birmingham Symphony, District of Columbia Community Orchestra, and the Loudoun Symphony, where she is currently principal harpist. There she has played numerous times on the Connoisseur Concerts of the Loudoun Symphony, which are Chamber Music Concerts. Over her career she has also had the privilege of performing with several of the area's prominent choral directors, including Norman Scribner, J. Reilly Lewis and Robert Shafer.
Sylvia is on the faculty at the Community Music School of the Piedmont in Upperville, VA, and also maintains a private studio in Lovettsville, VA. She plays for weddings, receptions, and corporate events, as well as political, and embassy parties. She is a member of Hunt Country Celebrations, Shenandoah Wedding Professionals, the Loudoun Arts Council, and the American Harp Society.

Sylvia McClain is a professional harpist
with over 25 years of experience. She possesses a broad musical repertoire
and has played in every capacity as a harpist to even include political
functions at the U.S. Capitol, State Department, and various embassies. Her
most recent performance was as a Featured Soloist with the Loudoun Symphony
in December 2005.
She was graduated cum laude from
Birmingham-Southern College where she earned both a Bachelor of Arts and
Bachelor of Music Degree in Harp. There she studied with the harpist
Marjorie Tyre. During her education, she spent summers at The Salzedo
School in Camden, Maine, studying with the harpists Alice Chalifoux
(successor to Carlos Salzedo) and Jeanne Chalifoux. She has also studied
at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, and the National Music
Camp at Interlochen, Michigan and was harpist of the Blossom Festival School
of the Cleveland Orchestra where she performed under the direction of Pierre
Boulez.
